What is a hypnosis session like?

In Tulsa, at the Tulsa Hypnosis Center, a hypnotherapy session begins by meeting with your professional hypnotist and discussing what areas you would like to address.   This is a time for you to ask questions and a time for your hypnotherapist to meet you and assess the best approach to helping you.   We have professional offices, similar to those of any doctor, lawyer or other professional.   After your initial conversation, you will move to our relaxing furniture, that is set up much like a comfortable living room. We keep our lights on, and your session will be much like a conversation in a casual and comfortable living room. To help you relax more fully, we use headphones with relaxing music and your hypnotist will speak through a microphone which you will hear directly through the headphones.   If you prefer, you do not need to wear headphones, but most people find this the easiest way to deeply relax.   You will then be guided through a serious of learnings and relaxation exercises that will help you to achieve a state of mind where your own creativity, insight and motivation is enhanced.   Your hypnotist will then give you a series of “direct” suggestions.    You will hear all of these suggestions, and you will always be awake and always fully aware of exactly what you are experiencing.

Hypnotic suggestions are structures to be accepted by the subconscious mind and become a part of your daily life.   You may also be asked to use creative visualization, relaxation techniques or other methods of creating new outcomes.   You will then be given time to process your experience with the hypnotist and ask any questions.    The process is comfortable, safe, and you will always be in control, able to make choices and always the director of your own experience.

 Why is hypnosis effective?

One reason hypnotic suggestions are effective is that in a state of deep relaxation or concentration we can reprogram our lifelong associations.  For example. a smoker might associate getting in the car with lighting up a cigarette; an obese person might associate food with the emotional state of comfort.   People with fears and phobias might associate and airplane with panic.  These are all automatic responses and associations “stored” though a lifetime of patterns in the subconscious mind.   In a state of deep concentration we can essentially “rewrite” these script or association and replace them with new associations.   You can think of this time as recoding over previous associations and replacing them with new associations.

You first session will last about one hour and sometime an hour and fifteen minutes.   Repeat session average about 45 minutes.

You will leave our office feeling a sense of satisfaction, knowing you have clear direction to help you accomplish your goals. Call us today at (918) 236-6116 to schedule your appointment and start living life to its fullest!
